Via terror trial jury begins sixth day of deliberations

Edward Prutschi tries to get into the minds of the jury as deliberations into the Toronto Via Rail terror trial enter their sixth day.

Newstalk 1010 legal analyst Edward Prutschi says he’s a little bit surprised it’s taking the jury so long to come to a decision.

“I know it was a lengthy trial. I know there was a lot of evidence,” Prutschi says. “But at the end of the day, the issues are fairly straightforward.”

Prutschi says it’s difficult to guess what issue the jury is having, whether it’s a challenge of law or a question of fact.

The jury has asked three technical questions so far, without revealing details about their deliberations. When they asked for a large screen TV, they didn’t disclose which video clips they wanted to watch. When they asked for another copy of a DVD containing intercepted conversations, they didn’t say which recording they were having trouble listening to.
